I have had the SG5 now for 3 months, and bought this model because (i) I was able to use a demo at my home course several times this year, and (ii) notwithstanding others are rated more highly for “great features” (see Critical Golf Reviews) this unit is easy to use and has more courses than other GPS devices for courses in Canada where I live. The user fee is most economical if you select the world wide three year program. The non GPS features – score tracker, moving from hole to hole, etc. – do require some getting used to, but in many ways are no different than what you experience every time you acquire a new cell phone. One big difference though, your cell phone manufacturer will not upgrade your software and feature use for free (like SkyCaddie did this year for the SG5). I was also hesitant to go for the touch-screen models (Callaway, SGX) that will have to get over some of the inevitable new technology problems that will arise (talk to your assistant Pro, not the sales people).
I have had nothing but positive experiences with my SG5, having used it on my home course, and while golfing in Texas and Phoenix. It is especially good in two circumstances (i) playing a new / tourist / visited course, and the Hole View (for every hole) will help you get ready for that big surprise waiting for us 14 handicap golfers, and (ii) on your home (and other) course where the optional intermediate target suggested shots provided by the SG5 (for eg. 165 yds leaves 95 to pin) and the accurate changeable pin placement in the Intelligreen Pro will help you with your course management. It literally changed the way I play the Game, especially my home course, reminding me time after time of true distances and intermediate targets (useful on par 5s).
The pricing for the SG5 is very reasonable right now, and the SG5 seems worthy for the new price. Yes, there will be new models and features every year; once you realize however that you will soon tire of “talking to your device” while your buddies are golfing, you will look for the model with the best basic features, and the one that you can relate to for function ease and use. I find the SG5 to be exactly that.

I bought this SkyCaddie as a slightly used item. I am very pleased with this purchase. I took out of the box and it looks brand new. It works very well, and the battery life is outstanding. I highly recommend buying thru AMAZON. What was said in the product description when I was shopping for it was spot on. Thank you AMAZON.
